How to Start Bixa Tree Cultivation
In India,
Most of the northern states are cultivating the Bixa Tree and the southern region Hydrabad,Nellore,Andhra and
Chitoor these states are started cultivating this tree by the support of
horticulture department.
The
Botanical Name for this tree is Bixa Orellana.It will grow between 2.5 Meter – 7.5 Meters Height. This tree can
be planted indoor as well as outdoor. Temperatures
between 20 and 26 degrees C and can with stand up to 40 degrees and an annual
rainfall of 1250 - 2000 m.m.
Edible
fruit of Bixa orellana is harvested mainly for its seeds which are used to make
the red orange dye named annatto a very widely used and important food
grade natural colorant. confectionery, bakery and dairy industry as well as in
cosmetics and leather industry.Meat products ,beverages,
pharmaceutical, products, confectionery and beauty products.

Post-Harvest Operations
The bunches
are spread onto polythene sheets or clothes under semi shade conditions for 6-7
days. The dried pods are beaten to remove the seeds. The separated
seeds are winnowed and stored in gunny bags in cool and dry places.
Yield
Fruits are
harvested for its seeds, which contains bixin (natural food color). We can get
1500/3000kg of seeds in an acre per year.
Marketing
The farmers
can sell the bixa seeds to the product manufacture and earn good margin. Also
if they start the own lipstick manufacturing unit then there will be huge
margin.
